Two more people have been arrested in connection with the brutal slayings of Polokwane restaurant owner, Lizette Deacon, and her mother Hettie on 10 September.
Police have identified one of the suspects arrested on Friday as the domestic worker of the family. The other suspect, also apprehended on Friday but at a different location, has been said by some media to be the boyfriend of the domestic worker.
Arrests in Polokwane and on East Rand
The domestic worker aged 51, was arrested in Polokwane at about 8am and the other suspect, aged 41, was taken into custody in Ivory Park, Tembisa at around 9am.
Their arrest means that four suspects are now in custody for the double murder. Last Sunday two male suspects, aged 30 and 35, were arrested. Both are said by police to have worked for the deceased.
Man named ‘Owen’ also being sought
Another man, said to be a Zimbabwean named Owen (pictured), is also being sought as police believe he may be able to assist them in the ongoing investigation.
According to spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Owen uses one of the following as surnames: Setsiba, Makutara or Mbedzi. He has been asked to report to the nearest police station.
Lizette and Hettie Deacon were killed at their home in Welgelegen, next to Cycad, in Polokwane on the 10th of this month. They had been attacked and stabbed before being tied up and put in the back of their SUV vehicle.
Vehicle found abandoned next to road
The vehicle, with the bodies, was found abandoned next to the R37 between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo on the same night.
It is believed the murderers intended to hide the bodies, but left the vehicle with lights on and engine running when they become aware that police were in hot pursuit and a police helicopter was in the vicinity.
Lizette Deacon was the owner of the Ocean Basket restaurant franchise at the Mall of the North in Polokwane.
