The highly anticipated Edo Governorship Election is finally here. The People of Edo state will either be electing a new governor or handing over a second term to the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.
Obaseki will squaring off against 13 other candidates from different political parties but his main rival is Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The two men are yet again facing each other as it will be recalled that they battled for the same position 4 years ago. Then, Obaseki was of the APC and Ize-Iyamu of the PDP.
POLITICS NIGERIA will be dropping live updates from the Edo 2020 Governorship elections. The contest has been predicted to be a very close call. Nigeria’s Electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, disclosed that 2,210,534 registered to vote in the state, and only 1,726,738 of them who have collected their permanent voters’ cards (PVC) are eligible to vote.
Adequate security has already been put in place as over 30,000 Policemen have been deployed to all areas of the state. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has provided all necessary welfare arrangements for the policemen and they were expected to give their best.
Speaking on the the security setup for the #EdoDecides2020 elections, the Deputy Inspector General(DIG) in charge of Security for the election, Akin Oyebode, admonished Edo citizens to come out and vote. He said;
“The message is clear: electorates should come out and cast their votes”
“If there are any challenges, they should reach us on 08154352118 on calls and if they see and record certain things, they should use their WhatsApp facility to forward to us on 08154350436. They can still use this number for SMS” he said.
