The Edo state deputy governor Philip Shaibu, has expressed confidence that Governor Godwin Obaseki and his party, the PDP, will come out victorious in the governorship election.
Shaibu stated this Saturday morning while speaking with journalists shortly after casting his vote at ward 11, unit 5, Jattu, Etsako West local government area.
He said: “I am optimistic that we will win the election. You know I am a man of the people and we have a technocrat as a governor.
“People who ordinarily would not have come out to vote are all here, so I am expecting bigger victory for us.”
Shaibu who expressed satisfaction with the turn out of voters, however said that it would have been more if not for the intitial tension that followed the electioneering campaign.
“I have never lost election before, I am a grassroot politician and a man of the people. The crowd would have been more than this, but I think as times goes on, people will turn up for the election.
“Don’t forget this is my community and whether there is gunshots t or not, they must stand by me.”
The Deputy governor confirmed the peaceful conduct of the election.

“You know at this time of election, things are usually peaceful, thing get worse during collation of result.
“I heard that in some stronghold of the governor, card readers are not working well, but I am yet to confirm that,” he said.
The Deputy governorship candidate of three All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Gani Audu, commended the lndependent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over the conduct of Edo state election.
Audu who gave the commendation after casting his ballot at his polling unit in ward 7, unit 13, Ughioli Primary School Aviele, Etsako West local government area, also commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct.
He described the turn-out of voters as massive and the first of its kind in the history of elections in Aviele.
He said there is no doubt in his mind that the APC will win the election because the state is an APC state.
“You can see, Edo is an APC state. I don’t have any doubts at all that we will win this election, APC will win this election at the end of the day. No doubt at all.
“You will see the result after 5pm today.
“The process is okay, I just came, used the Card Reader, accreditation was done and I voted, very simple.
“The turn out is massive. In fact, I am seeing the turn out in this for the first time in the history of elections in this village. The turn out is massive and it is fine,” he said.
