The 36-year-old attacker attracted the attention of the majority of European teams during his participation in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and CAF Champions League with Ahly. He joined English Premier League side Hull City on loan in the 2013 season.
CAF introduced new award ‘Super Sub’ especially for Gedo after he came on as a substitute in six games of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, snatching the tournament’s top scorer title with five goals.

“I feel it’s the appropriate time to retire,” Gedo tweeted.
“I spent a brilliant time in the field. It was more than I expected. I am lucky to have achieved all my dreams which wouldn’t have come true without your (fans) support,” Gedo added.
“I am now ready for a new trip in my life, thank you all.”
Gedo reached his peak when he was named the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer with five goals as well as leading Egypt national team to their third respective continental title and the seventh in the Pharaohs’ history.
The Egyptian attacker started his football career with Egyptian second division team Damanhour FC before joining Ittihad of Alexandria in the 2005 season.
Gedo helped Ittihad reach the African Confederation Cup in 2006 as he attracted the attention of Egyptian Premier League topflight teams.
In the 2010 season, Gedo joined African and Egyptian giants Ahly as he led the Reds to snatch the African Champions League title two times, two Egyptian Premier League titles, Egyptian Super Cup title and the African Super Cup twice.
He joined English Premier League side Hull City on loan from Ahly in the 2013 season as he made 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.
Gedo made 36 appearances with Egypt’s national team from 2009 to 2014, scoring 19 goals as he won the Africa Cup of Nations title with the Pharaohs in 2010.
