The forum, slated for 1-5 March, will be held virtually under the motto “Shaping Africa’s New Normal: Recovering Stronger, Rebuilding Better”.
The CCCPA Director General, Ahmed Abdel-Latif, held a meeting with the dean of the African group of ambassadors in Cairo in the presence of the ambassadors of Mali, Guinea, Mauritania, and Gabon, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry said.
The African ambassadors welcomed the forum as a high-level African platform that proposes African solutions to challenges facing the continent in the fields of peace, security, and sustainable development, particularly given the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Aswan forum was announced by El-Sisi in February 2019 when Egypt chaired the African Union during the 32nd summit in Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa for the first time since the African body was established in 2002.
It is designed as a platform for African and world leaders, and for African and global companies, experts, and others to discuss the operationalisation of interlinkages between “sustaining peace” and “sustainable development” in Africa, with the hope of making “a real difference in peoples’ lives and to spread hope.”
The first edition of the event, titled “An Agenda for Sustainable Peace, Security and Development in Africa” was held in December 2019.
