Egypt reported 643 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total infections tally in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic to 163,129.

In an official statement, the health ministry added it reported 55 new fatalities over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the virus since the pandemic began last year to 9,067.

The statement said that 432 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 127,433.

Coronavirus daily infection tolls in Egypt have been on the decline since 9 January, While death tolls are hovering around 40 to 50 for the second month in a row.

On Tuesday, more medical staffers in Qalyubia and Port Said governorates were inoculated against the highly contagious virus as part of the country’s vaccination campaign that kicked off on Sunday, the ministry said.

The country is currently waiting for new batches of coronavirus vaccines to expand the vaccinations’ access to more categories, especially high-priority groups.

Egypt’s vaccination priority list starts with the frontline healthcare workers at the isolation, fever, chest and screening hospitals; followed by kidney failure and cancer patients; then the elderly.

Egypt already reserved 100 million doses of the approved vaccines and has the capability to store 140 million doses of the vaccine.
