Niger Delta Youth Congress, (NDYC) has condemned the looting and destruction of property under the guise of #EndSARS protest.
A statement yesterday by its Coordinator, Israel Uwejeyan and Secretary, Raymond Alaibe, dissociated the group from the violence.
It said the perpetrators were criminals, who hijacked the #EndSARS protests.
Supporting the genuine demands of #EndSARS protesters, including police reform and good governance, they called on the government to probe and prosecute anybody found culpable in the Lekki tollgate shooting.
The statement reads:“We condemn the looting and destruction of property … as this will further cripple our economy and create more unemployment.
“NDYC dissociates itself from violent protest and called on our members to leave the streets when we observed that the protest was being hijacked…
“We commend the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) for intervening to stop religious bigots who wanted to turn the protest into a bloody religious and ethnic crisis.
‘’It is time to sheath our swords, go back to the table, synergise and engage our governments to demand transparency and good governance.”
