Three persons are feared killed while five vehicles and two motorcycles got burnt and many injured in a tanker explosion that occurred in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The explosion occurred around 8.00 am on Tuesday morning on the IBB Presidential Boulevard around Alaba Lawson Schools via GTB, Abeokuta.

The ugly fire incident, which reportedly involved a 33,000-fuel laden tanker, happened due to a brake failure.

Eye-witness accounts revealed that the tanker, which was coming from Sagamu-Siun-Oke-Mosan Road, climbed the overhead bridge but suddenly lost control while descending from the bridge and hit a motorcycle which was in motion before bursting into flames.

The combined efforts of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Fire Service both the federal and State and individuals put off the fire.

The injured have been taken to undisclosed hospitals.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the survivors, Mr Segun Oluwabunmi said he escaped through the grace of God because he was inside his gulf car when the incident occurred.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Femi Ogunbanwo who sympathised with the families of the deceased, said the government would wait for the report of the relevant agencies on the incident in order to avert future occurrence.

He disclosed that government has ordered free treatment to the injured.
