Bolaji Ogundele and Moses Emorinken, Abuja

THE Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 pandemic has warned that the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) strike could result in more loss of lives in the country.

Its Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, addressed reporters on Monday in Abuja.

The SGF urged JOHESU to call off the strike, just as he hailed the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) for calling off its action.

Also, Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire on Monday said JOHESU strike could erode all the gain the Health sector had recorded since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

“It is gratifying that NARD has called off their strike, but unhelpful that the JOHESU has begun theirs. The position of the Ministry of Health is that strikes by healthcare workers jeopardise the lives of citizens, especially at such times of global health emergencies as now.

“Nigeria needs the service of all health workers to control COVID-19 spread. Issues around allowances are multi-sectoral and have always been solved with negotiations, no matter how long it took,” he said.
