The Ogun State Government on Monday strongly advised residents living in the flood prone areas to relocate immediately in view of prediction on impending flood disaster.
The State’s Commissioner for Environment, Abiodun Abudu – Balogun at Press Conference in Abeokuta, the state capital, said they were advised to relocate temporarily to safer places as part of moves to protect lives and properties.
Abudu-Balogun listed 40 communities affected in ten Local Government Areas including: Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa South, Ogun Waterside and Ogun East.
He said the advice becomes imperative following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NIMET) 2020 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction, which included Ogun as one of the states to be affected by flooding.
The Commissioner disclosed that 128 people have been arrested and prosecuted for indiscriminate dumping of refuse on waterways and other environmental offences.
