A prominent traditional ruler in Borno State, the Emir of Biu, HRH Umar Mustapha Aliyu, has died at the age of 80.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the monarch passed away on Monday night in his palace in Biu after a brief illness. However, family sources said the Emir died of an undisclosed illness.
Confirming the death of the monarch on his Twitter page on Tuesday morning, former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has condoled with the Government and people of Borno State over the demise of the Emir.
He wrote: “My condolences to the Government and people of Borno State over the demise of the Emir of Biu His Royal Highness Alhaji Mustapha Aliyu. May Allah in his infinite mercy grant him Aljanna firdausi. Amin.”
As of the time of filing this report, the government of Borno state is yet to release a statement on the death of the monarch.
