Not a lot of confidence around anything in this but, at the weights, local 6YO 8. Manhattan Zip is ready to win fourth-up. Was well backed working home into a place here last start and carries 1kg less after rookie rider’s full claim.
Dangers: Canberra 8YO 1. Axion drops back in grade and to a more suitable trip after not running out the 2000m last start and relishes wet ground. Kembla 8YO 7. Justice Honor hasn’t won for a long time but hit the line well in that same race as the top selection and gets in light after junior rider’s 4kg claim. Hawkesbury 5YO 2. Tormund fought on strong to win a BM 58 at Orange but badly off at the weights jumping sharply to 61kg.
How to play it: Manhattan Zip to win and trifecta 1,8/1,2,7,8/1,2,7,8 Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m)
Thin race but keen on another Queanbeyan visitor 7. Tuscan Light who saves his best work for this type of going. Didn’t finish off over further at Kembla, but three runs back surged home at big odds in a Highway on heavy ground.
Dangers: Kembla staying mare 5. Spring Secret led all the way resuming at Muswellbrook and this looks a nice follow-up race, but a query in the ground. Expect Albury 5YO 4. Sydney Blue to improve sharply second-up after covering ground in his first run for 10 months.
How to play it: Tuscan Light to win Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1000m)
Back to the sprint trip, and improving Canberra filly 3. Evanora is the one to beat at third start with a useful 2kg claim. Just missed driving late here over the same trip and supremely bred to fire on wet tracks.
Dangers: Home track 3YO debutant 7. Nic’s Hero looks ready to go off a strong heavy track trial win. Goulburn 4YO 2. Premier Award is close to breaking through after finding the line well at Bathurst.
How to play it: Evanora to win Odds and Evens: Split
Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)
Very tricky with any number of chances. Local 4YO 1. Bonvalante was close-up in that trial won by stablemate Nic’s Hero, who goes around in the race before so a strong lead is there.
Dangers: Queanbeyan filly 10. Annual has found the line only fairly in three runs this prep, but this is weaker and a leading country rider has stuck. Was preferred here to the Sapphire Coast on Thursday. Include both Kembla filly 13. Seelie Queen and Goulburn 3YO 9. Voodoo Chile in wider exotics.
How to play it: trifecta 1,10/1,9,10,13/1,9,10,13 Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1200m)
Promising local 3YO 2. Another One resumes with no official trial but comes to hand quickly. Should have won on debut when luckless here in heavy ground before made amends in dominant fashion next start.
Dangers: Canberra filly 8. Irish Dancer charged home from midfield to win on debut here and land a significant betting move. Ran past Evanora, who goes around earlier in the meeting, and she looks a real soft tracker. Home course mare 5. Alise can mix her form without warning but is a heavy track winner and will find this a bit easier than last start. Goulburn 4YO 1. Judicator can run a big race fresh after joining a new stable. Blinkers have been removed, and he had reasonable form in stronger provincial class earlier in the year. Local mare 7. Torsiton finished well to claim her maiden here second-up but a query in these conditions.
How to play it: Another One to win and quinella 2 and 8 Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 7 STAN SADLEIR STAKES (1400m)
Feature race of the day is an open affair. Keen on Canberra 4YO 9. Zelago getting out to an ideal trip fourth-up. Did his best work late in a BM 70 Federal at home two runs back before finishing best under a big weight to win. Loves the wet and drops down to a luxury 55kg.
Dangers: Home track mare 2. Sky Call can go close fourth-up back in grade from two metro runs and a fair effort in the Benalla Cup behind a smart one. Goulburn 6YO 4. Black Wand has also been competitive in stronger company this prep and has a liking for rain-affected tracks. Watch the betting on 6YO ex-Victorian mare 1. Global Sanction having her first run for leading local stable with the blinkers coming off but no official trial. Lightly raced 9YO 10. Dezzy has a good record here at home, been in and around the money all prep, and also drops sharply in weight.
How to play it: Zelago to win Odds and Evens: Split
Race 8 MAD SCRAMBLE (1000m)
Competitive and open dash to finish. Home track 5YO 7. Galaxy Force should have finished much closer in a strong Highway at Randwick last start. That came after finishing close-up at Canberra, and last time here bolted in a BM 58 in heavy going. One of the better weighted runners all day after the 3kg claim.
Dangers: Smart Corowa 5YO 1. Straover resumes without an official trial and is a superior wet tracker. Normally, though, takes a run to hit his straps and the inside draw late in the day does him no favours. Consistent Canberra 7YO 3. Polar Star has been mixing it well in tougher fields and also excels on soft ground. Include local 7YO 4. Forever Newyork who resumes with no official trial but has a solid fresh record and chased home Straover here last start before spelling. Watch for local 5YO 5. Logan River getting home late after having little luck in his last couple.
How to play it: Galaxy Force to win Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 6: (2) ANOTHER ONE; Race 7: (9) ZELAGO
Race 8: (7) GALAXY FORCE
